UTC · UTC+0
UTC, or Coordinated Universal Time, is the reference clock every other time zone is defined against, and it is written as UTC+0. It never shifts for daylight saving, so the reading above is the same UTC moment as the one in a server log in Frankfurt or a flight plan out of Santiago. Offsets like UTC−5 or UTC+9 are hours added to or subtracted from it.

Common questions
- What time is it in UTC right now?
- The clock at the top of this page shows the current time in UTC, updated every second, with today's date and the day of the week beneath it. It reads your device's clock and takes off your local offset, so it is right wherever you happen to be.
- Is UTC ahead of or behind my time zone?
- Neither, by definition: UTC is the zero point, and every other zone is expressed as an offset from it, ranging from UTC−11 to UTC+14. Paste a timestamp into the converter below to see UTC next to your own zone and a dozen major cities.
- Does UTC change for daylight saving time?
- No, and it never will. UTC is deliberately fixed so that logs, APIs and coordinated schedules have one unambiguous reference. Zones that observe daylight saving change their offset from UTC; UTC itself does not move.
- Is UTC the same as GMT?
- On a clock face, yes: both read UTC+0. UTC is the modern atomic-clock standard and the one to use in software; GMT is the older astronomical term. The confusion is that the UK leaves GMT for British Summer Time between late March and late October, so “GMT” and “London time” are not the same thing in summer.
